Artificial Tooth
An artificial tooth is a man-made replica of a tooth that replaces a lost tooth or, in the case of a damaged tooth, a crown. There are a variety of materials from which an artificial tooth may be constructed. Materials from which an artificial tooth may be fashioned include:
- Porcelain
- Resin
- Zirconia
- E.max (lithium disilicate)
An artificial tooth that is attached to a metal post set in a patient's jaw is referred to as a dental implant. An artificial tooth that is connected to a removable base is known as a denture. An artificial tooth that is a cover fixed over the remains of a damaged tooth is known as a crown.
An artificial tooth is different from a dental veneer. A veneer is the imitation of a tooth surface. This imitation is attached to the outside of a tooth. Veneers are often used to improve the appearance of a smile.
