Dental Insurance Statistics
DentalInsurance.com has provided the below statistics to build awareness about the costs and features of dental insurance. Unlike research on health insurance, publicly available dental plan data is relatively scarce online. Because of this situation, DentalInsurance.com decided to make their own dental insurance statistics available based on its nationwide inventory of plans supplemented with plan information gathered from a few publicly available resources for states where the number of sampled plans had been very limited.
The analyses are based on sampled dental plans in each state for the following customer profile:
There were 1,196 dental plan records in total. Many records were for the same dental plan offered in multiple states where premiums would differ (and, less commonly, a waiting period). In some cases, there were instances of the same plan being subject to different state-specific mandates. The plans utilized by this study are a sample of regional dental plans and do not constitute every dental plan available on the market.
Metrics applied to the first year of enrollment. Consequently, a benefit that had a 12-month waiting period was counted as absent for the purposes of this study even if this benefit would be available after the first year of enrollment.
1,019 dental plan records were stand-alone PPO dental plans. An additional 107 plans combined PPO dental benefits with vision benefits. 42 plan records were dental discount cards. 23 were HMO plans. 5 were indemnity plans.
