Preventive dental care refers to dental procedures that seek to preserve oral health and protect both teeth and gums. Preventive procedures include annual (or bi-annual) check-ups, teeth cleaning, x-rays, and pediatric fluoride treatments. Deductibles, coinsurance fees, or copayments may be waived by a dental plan in the case of preventive care. Preventive dental work is distinct from basic dental work and major dental work.
