Tooth Enamel

Enamel is the hard outer layer of a tooth. Enamel is mostly made out of calcium. A hole or a pit in a tooth's enamel caused by decay is known as a caries or a cavity.

A diet of sugary and acidic foods, teeth grinding during sleep, and chewing ice are all examples of things that can cause damage to the enamel of a tooth.
