Copayment

A copayment is a charge paid by a patient for a covered dental procedure. A copayment is a fixed dollar amount (e.g. $45).

A copayment is contrasted to a coinsurance fee. A coinsurance fee is the percentage of a covered dental procedure's expense that is paid by a patient. A dental plan will use either a copayment or a coinsurance fee, but not both for the same procedure.
