Abscess
An abscess is a dental condition where a bacterial infection produces pus and this pus collects in a pocket such as under the gum tissue or near the tip of a tooth root. This pocket may result in a visible lump depending on the abscess' location. Abscesses are considered a serious issue, and it is a wise idea to consult a dentist if you believe you have an abscess.
You can check the Summary of Benefits (or plan brochure) for your dental insurance to understand their coverage of dental care.
An abscess may be treated by a dentist or, in some cases, require the services of a periodontist.
