Orthodontics can improve overall oral health, as well as the appearance of one’s teeth and face. Sometimes orthodontics are necessary for patients who are unable to reach areas of their teeth to keep them clean, or in other cases, to allow for room for new teeth to grow in. Individuals looking into orthodontics should make sure their dental insurance will cover it. Depending on the plan and provider, coverage costs can vary dramatically. Some types of affordable dental insurance cover a large percentage of orthodontic applications, while others cover a small portion of the cost, if that. Is it possible to purchase cheap dental insurance that helps toward the cost of orthodontics? The answer to this question is simple—any coverage for orthodontics is better than none at all. As you browse our dental plans and premiums, be sure to check specifically for orthodontics coverage under each. Read the articles below to learn more about orthodontic applications and procedures.

This appliance is called a night guard or bite splint that is used for people who grind their teeth. It separates the teeth to help relax the muscles and prevent clenching. It allows teeth to slide on the appliance and not damage the teeth as fast. Without this, the teeth will wear thinner faster resulting in only small, short teeth. Well, guess what? Your teeth naturally shift as you age, and over time, speech, breathing, and chewing patterns can throw them out of alignment. Plus, teeth that have been corrected have a tendency to go back to where they were before. "It's only within the past few years that we've realized you should wear retainers every night for the rest of your life if you want your teeth to stay put," says Don Joondeph, associate professor of orthodontics at the University of Washington in Seattle. Fortunately, if your adult vanity can't abide crooked teeth, fixing them -- for the first or even the second time -- is easier than you might think.

Well before I start the story of my removal, I'll tell you a little bit about my history with braces. My younger sister began her orthodontic treatment at the age of 6, so when I was about 10 years old my mom asked the dentist if I would also need braces, but they said that it would be purely for cosmetic purposes so of course I didn't get them. When I was 14 years old my dentist said that my overbite had gotten worse and that we should see an orthodontist. We went and he informed us that my treatment would require oral surgery. I got my braces on in September of 2003.
