Brushing and Flossing

At DentalInsurance.com, our goal is to provide a number of plans to choose from so that clients can find the dental coverage that most precisely meets their needs. One priority for clients is the cost of premiums. Patients have the most control over premiums when they are presented with a wide range of choices. Did you know that healthy habits can also help your premiums? When patients exercise healthy habits, they need fewer procedures and office visits, which can result in lower dental insurance premiums over the long-term. Our clients’ health is important to us. For this reason, we provide articles that contain current news and tips on oral healthcare. Choosing the right personal dental insurance plan is critical, but maintaining strong oral health and healthy daily routines is just as important. The articles below include useful tips and valuable information on keeping teeth and gums clean and healthy.

Can you really get whiter teeth without spending a lot of time in a dentist chair? A slew of over-the-counter whitening agents promise just that, but making sense of the various advertising claims can be confusing. The whiteners, which range in price from $10 to about $50, include paint-on whiteners, do-it-yourself dental trays and adhesive strips that you stick on your teeth. That is less expensive than the $300 to $800 charged by dentists for custom whitening trays or light-activated bleaching procedures. Labeling differences can make some over-the-counter products sound stronger than they are.

I've had the RotaDent for many years now, long before braces. Of course, when I brush now with braces, I start with a regular toothbrush then use the RotaDent, then Floss, and then do my rinse with PhosFlur. I also use that rubber tipped gadget in some areas wear my teeth angle funny.

(100%, 2 ratings) submitted by IntellectualCritic (83%, 3 ratings), Jan 6, 05 If you take your teeth, put them in a glass, pour soda over them and let them stand for days (or was it weeks.?), it will dissolve away the teeth. I saw a science project on it. Some kid actually acquired some used teeth and did the experiment for a science fair. I believe the clear drinks were the worst, but I don't really remember. So, I strongly recommend not soaking your teeth in (what amounts to) sugar saturated carbonic acid (i.e. soda pop).

Listerine may kill germs as it fights bad breath, but it's still not as good as floss. That's the word from Manhattan Federal Court Judge Denny Chin, who ordered the makers of Listerine yesterday to pull commercials he said were false advertising. Johnson & Johnson, a leading maker of dental floss, had sued Listerine's parent Pfizer over the TV ads, which plug Listerine as being as effective as floss in fighting plaque and gingivitis. "Dentists and hygienists have been telling their patients for decades to floss daily," Chin said. "They have been doing so for good reason. The benefits of flossing are real - they are not a myth.

U.S. District Judge Denny Chin said in a decision made public today that he will order Pfizer, the maker of Listerine, to stop the advertising campaign. The lawsuit was brought by a Johnson & Johnson company that makes dental floss. "Dentists and hygienists have been telling their patients for decades to floss daily," Chin wrote. "They have been doing so for good reason. The benefits of flossing are real - they are not a 'myth.' Pfizer's implicit message that Listerine can replace floss is false and misleading." The judge ruled after McNeil-PPC Inc.

It is less prevalent in adults, but depending on a person's home care and oral hygiene regime, it's still seen on a daily basis in all ages. Tooth decay is found in the Western world, where it is presumed to be because of careless dietary habits and poor oral hygiene. So what's so silent about this epidemic? When a child looks at you and gives you their biggest grin, there's nothing silent about an obvious mouth full of decay that is screaming out to you, "Help!" You're probably thinking, "That poor child, her mother should be turned in for neglect." How about the teen-ager that gives you the same decay-filled smile?

Brushing your teeth might soon be considered an important part of a heart-healthy lifestyle, right alongside not smoking, getting regular exercise, and eating lots of any food product that has a heart on the package, a particularly fun prospect around Valentine's Day. If there's one thing most of us dislike more than paying taxes, having to listen to a disemboweled voice on the phone tell us over and over how important our call is to them, or watching a fully clothed Super Bowl halftime show, it's going to the dentist.

Wow talk about embarrassing. "Hi, I'm your cute little dental hygenist. Let's take a look here and see- OH MY GOD! Your gums are so angry, floss every once in a while dumbass." That pretty much sums up my whole trip to the dentist yesterday. OK, not my whole trip but definitely one of the "highlights". It was my first trip to the dentist in over a year at least. It's probably bad that I really don't remember the last time I've been to the dentist, suffice it to say it's been more than a year but less than two. Now I've never really been completely satisfied with my teeth, and I've been wanting to change that.

Millions of Americans don't take time to floss, but after reviewing substantial medical evidence, in a recent case against Listerine, Federal Judge Denny Chin of United States District Court in Manhattan ruled in favor of McNeil-PPC, Inc., makers of new Johnson & Johnson REACH(R) EASY SLIDE(R) PRO(TM) floss - reinforcing what dental experts have been saying for years: There's simply NO SUBSTITUTE for flossing. Dental experts overwhelmingly agree that daily flossing is a critical, preventive step in reducing tooth decay and gum disease.

Dental experts overwhelmingly agree that daily flossing is a critical, preventive step in reducing tooth decay and gum disease. Flossing removes plaque between teeth and below the gum line -- dislodging the pieces of food trapped between teeth which otherwise cannot be brushed or rinsed away. Plaque build up causes gum disease (gingivitis) which affects some two- thirds(1) of the U.S. population, while advanced-stage gum disease (periodontal disease) is the leading cause of tooth loss in American adults and affects between ten and fifteen percent of the U.S. population.
